When making baked goods you’ll sometimes see that you need self-rising flour or even self-rising corn meal. Don’t freak out. It happens sometimes. If none of your bags of flour or cornmeal say “self-rising” there’ s no need to run to the store. You can whip up some self-rising flour or cornmeal quickly with what’s right in your kitchen.
I use self-rising flour or cornmeal typically when I’m whipping up Southern dishes like buttermilk pancakes or hush puppies. Though you can also use it to make pita chips and pizza dough.
If you bake I’m sure you have everything in your house you need to make it. It’s really just the addition of a little baking powder.
For each cup of flour you’ll add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and a little bit of salt.
