There is nothing more gratifying than some crunchy, well seasoned french fries. Of course, after making several healthy dishes for family and friends, I’ve been a little more thoughtful about making my favorite food more healthful. It was also important to use that bag of 5 pound potatoes I bought last week. So I present to you baked rosemary french fries.
The historian in me is fascinated by certain foods and potatoes are one of them. Think about it. It’s origins are in South America but people almost everywhere have made potatoes their own. French fries in particular are the base of a delicious Canada poutine. As well as New Jersey’s disco fries. And depending on the region, many different cultures have put their spin on this versatile vegetable. The point is, it’s so delicious everyone loves it.
Whether you are interested in covering it with gravy or cheese this is a dish people of all ages love. These fries turn out nice and crispy without out the fryer because I soaked it potato in water prior to baking. It helps to decrease the starchiness of the potato therefore helping it to crisp up. Funny enough, I started soaking food in water to help infuse it with flavor. Little did I know there were so many other benefits.
And of course, since you’re baking your fries you don’t have to feel bad about the toppings you put on it. These fries were bakes on a Silicone Non-stick Cooking Mat to allow it to crisp. It’s not necessary but it is something that I use. Now doesn’t that feel good. Deliciously healthy baked french fries. Now add a whole bunch of extra delicious items on top.
So what will you put on your baked french fries?
Rosemary French Fries
Makes 2 servings
- 2-3 large baking potatoes
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- cooking spray
Tools: baking mat (optional) and sheet pan
Preheat oven to 450 degrees
fill a large bowl with cold water, salt and 1/4 teaspoon of rosemary
cut potatoes in match stick french fries
put cut fries into bowl of salted water
remove fries from salted water and pat dry
in a bowl mix olive oil and remaining rosemary (toss well)
place fries on baking sheet and place in oven
bake fries for 30 to 45 minutes turning every 10 to 15 minutes
baking time is dependent on the size of your fries
Hmm, I think these fries might be perfect with some Peruvian Roasted Chicken.
