Yup, it’s that easy. This idea for baked wonton cups came to me while I was planning a menu for the opening show at an art gallery. The client wanted something small, hand held and not messy. For an event like an opening where people will be dressed nicely it’s important to have sturdy handheld food. You wouldn’t want someone to take a bite and it spill all over their clothes.
So wonton cups with a nice light filling were the perfect appetizer for this event. It’s hand held and when made right and filled right it’s easy to make into a tasty little (non messy) bite. Additionally, it’s baked and not fried which leaves you with a lot less oil to worry about.
I love cups for party and apps at events. In the past, I’ve used pizza dough, biscuit dough as well as potatoes to make cups to hold food. But I really like wonton wrappers for this. It also doesn’t get soft or soggy when filled and you can make it in advance.

Now … how you fill these wonton cup is entirely up to you. You could fill it with spinach and artichoke dip or taco meat or caesar salad. The possibilities are endless. Which means if you are having people over there’s a variety of appetizers or snacks to choose from with minimal effort on your part. YAY!!
To be honest, in my house I don’t have to fill the cups with anything. I sprinkle a little salt on it and the littles eat it like it’s chips. This is perfect for me because many times I buy the large pack of wrappers from the Asian market to make dumplings but I have no interest in filling and folding 100 dumplings. Now I don’t have to and the wrappers won’t go to waste. Whew!!
