Homemade Enchilada Sauce

Homemade Enchilada Sauce

A super simple and delicious recipe for homemade enchilada sauce. And this enchilada sauce is not just for enchiladas. Make this sauce your own and you can use it for a ton of family friendly meals.

Making this enchilada sauce because I didn’t want to go to the store.Yup, to be honest. I just didn’t want to do it. It would take me more time to put the kids in the car than to make the sauce, so why waste the time. Funny huh? Think about how much time we waste driving to the store to purchase something because it’s convenient. I had everything we needed to make enchilada sauce in the house so there really was no reason not to make it.

What’s Mexican Chili Powder

Mexican Chili powder is absolutely delicious. It is typically a combination of several spices and ancho chili powder, chipotle powder and New Mexican chili powder.

Ancho Chile

If you don’t have Mexican Chili Powder you can always substitute dark chili powder. If you plan to use this sauce in other dishes, yes other dishes, you might want to use dark chili powder instead of Mexican chili powder. Many Mexican chili powders are hot, so if your family can not take the heat do not add.

How Do I Make It My Own

Some ways we make our enchilada sauce our own is by adding a bit of fresh cilantro to it when adding it to our enchiladas. It’s also great as a marinade for a big hunk of meat. Other ways you can use enchilada sauce is in casseroles, or beef mac n cheese bake. When adding it to a mac n cheese bake think about adding some nutmeg too. Oh… and don’t forget soup. I like to add a bit of extra spice to it and add the spicy extra to my soup.

Enchilada sauce is perfect if you need to give your leftovers a makeover.
