how to throw a patriotic memorial day

Memorial Day is the perfect time to get your family and friends together. Don’t let the threat of rain stop you. Here’s How to host a patriotic memorial day party (rain or shine).

As Memorial Day draws near, most people are thinking about hosting a barbecue or memorial day party at their home. It’s a day where family and friends get together and enjoy each others’ company. But Memorial Day is more than a weekend or BBQs and trips to the beach. It’s a time to remembrance.

A great time to take a moment to remember those lost serving in the military. Around here we do that by enjoying time with out loved ones and by honoring soldiers still with us. As someone who has family and friends that have fought and died for this country it’s important to honor them and make the most of everyday.

And what’s the best way to appreciate everyday? To live it to the fullest. Rain or Shine.

Red, White & Blue

Gotta give it up for the red white and blue. Start off right with a beautiful and patriotic invitation. Evite has some beautiful options as well as Punchbowl and several other sites. Of course, you could also make your own (you can find instructions HERE).

Decor From Ceiling to Floor

You know I’m a fan of making your home welcoming. So get out your balloons and your stars and stripes decor. If you have an American flag outside your home, remember citizens are asked to display the flag at half-staff.
You don’t have to drown your party in Red, White and Blue. Try blue, with accents of red and white.

Tasty and Simple

Sometimes simple is best. Go for burgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob. Country Living has a delicious recipe for Bacon and Cheese filled burger. Of and don’t forget a light Summer Potato Salad.

Don’t forget to breakout all of the beautiful fruit. I really do like these Patriotic Skewers from Ramona over at Curry and Comfort. These are cute and fun to make with the littles.

Want to make this all fruit? Switch out the marshmallow for bananas or pineapples. Short on time? Try these Super Simple Party Recipes. Oh, and don’t forget the chips and dip.

Cupcakes Too

It’s not a party if there isn’t cake. You can … marble cupcakes like these from Two Sisters. Love the way the cupcakes look on the inside. Want another hand held option you can make some patriotic cakes in a jar. Oh, or a red, white and blue trifle. Yum!

Fun in the Rain

You could prepare to take your party indoors or you could have fun in the rain.¬† Did you plan on firing up the grill? If it starts to rain, put up a tent. Don’t let a little rain stop you. And so people can enjoy the rain, put up the waterproof canopy and

Rain day, play day. Encourage people to bring their rain boots and coats. Live it up and totally embrace the rain. Get some red, white and blue umbrellas. Yup, go all out and sing in the rain. No matter what, embrace the day.

Write A Letter to A Soldier

This is an activity the kids will love. It also provides them the opportunity to better understand those serving in the military and uplift them. There are several organizations like A Million Thanks and Operation Gratitude are just two of the many organizations that send letters to soldiers over seas, veterans and new recruits.

It’s Better To Give

Honors those who were lost by supporting those who are still serving. Ask guest to bring a non-perishable snack or socks. Everyone can work together to put the care package together. Organizations like AnySoldier and The Hugs Project will help identify what soldiers need and help you send your package to a soldier.

A Memorial Day Party that’s fun, patriotic and thoughtful. So go ahead and celebrate.
