This Quick and Easy no Yeast Bagel Recipe you can Make at Home will obviously save you a trip to the grocery store but that’s not all. You can actually make half dozen bagels for about $3. You could pay double that in the grocery store for bagels that are not even fresh. Of course, for me that just means I spend the rest on all types of accoutrements like sun dried tomatoes, lox and capers. I know all extra for no reason except deliciousness.
I’ve been dabbling quite a bit over the last couple of years at making breads. It started with the success of an artisan bread in the dutch oven. I mean it was so perfect (the 3rd time around) it made me want to cut a hole in the top and pour my favorite creamy chicken soup inside and curl up on the couch.
I was on a bread kick. Which I tend to do with food that’s easier to make than I has expected. I was trying to convince my neighbor to ditch his bread maker and urging my bestie to make a gluten free version. I would not let it go. that was until I realized “Hey, if bread was this simple and pretzel are made out of bread why not make pretzels?” The teenager at the pretzel place make it look so easy. Well the dough was pretty simple but it took me a moment to figure out how to stretch it out. Eventually, I figured it out.
When I came across this recipe on skinnytaste that required on yeast. I was super excited. Though I have not problem with yeast, you have to wait for it to rise. Now that’s fine on the weekend when i have a bit more time on my hands but not for during the week or when we are having a gathering at the house. while I need something that was simple and quick. Though Gina’s recipe used an air fryer, I really liked the recipe. There’s no yeast, no boiling and only 5 ingredients. Woo hoo.
I’ve adapted this recipe a bit because for us it’s all about taste. While making all those breads and pretzels I’ve figured a couple of ways to add lots of flavor. So the El’s Kitchen Comforts recipe has 6 ingredients unless you decided to make an everything bagel then it have.
I love that you can make this with the 1-to-1 gluten free flour mix and that it takes only about 25 minutes in the oven. Since I’ve mastered this recipe I make bagels almost every week.
Quick and Easy No Yeast Bagels You Can Make at Home
Makes 8 Servings
- 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour, or gluten-free mix*
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 cups Greek yogurt
- 1 egg , beaten
Everything Seasoning Mix
- 1/4 cup sesame seeds
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 3 tablespoons onion flakes
- 2 tablespoons minced dried garlic
- 2 tablespoons sea salt
Tools: large bowl, spatula, parchment paper or roll and cut mat, baking sheet and basting brush
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar and salt well.
Next add Greek yogurt. With a spatula combine yogurt and flour mixture.
Add a little bit of flour to parchment paper or a roll and cut mat. Add dough to mat and kneaded until dough combines but is not sticky (dough should pull away from hand).
Place a separate place on parchment paper on a baking sheet and spray with oil.
Divide dough into 8 balls. Roll out each ball into thick ropes. I do this by rolling the dough between my hands. Starting from the center and moving to the ends.
Then gently twist the ends together and use a little water to smooth the dough out.
Place bagels on the parchment lined baking sheet. Make sure to give the dough space since it will expand.
Using a basting brush, brush bagels with (beaten) egg.
Sprinkle bagel with seasoning. Bake bagels on the top rack for about 25 minutes (may need 30 minutes if using gluten free flour).
Let bagels cool for about 10 minutes. And you’ve got breakfast, or brunch or a delicious to put your sandwich on. Cool right?
Now, I don’t typically do this but …. please, please please make this recipe. This quick and easy no yeast bagel recipe you can make at home, is a serious breakfast game changer. Then of course, send me pics.
